Inconel Alloy 718 Pipe

Inconel Alloy 718 Pipe Composition Information
Inconel 718 tubing is a precipitation-hardening nickel-chromium alloy with an approximate composition of 50-55% nickel, 17-21% chromium, 2.8-3.3% molybdenum, 4.75-5.5% niobium and tantalum, 0.65-1.15% titanium, 0.20-0.80% aluminum, and the balance iron. It also contains trace amounts of other elements, such as carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, boron, cobalt, and copper, all within specified limits. This composition combines high strength with creep resistance and good high-temperature ductility, along with excellent low-temperature properties.
Why is Inconel 718 difficult to machine?
The excellent high-temperature properties of the nickel-based superalloy Inconel 718 have led to its widespread use in the aviation, marine, and automotive industries. However, Inconel 718's poor thermal conductivity and rapid strain hardening result in poor machinability and surface integrity.
